Kodiak is a beautiful black-and-tan German Shepherd who is currently finding her footing in a new environment. She is still relatively new to the shelter and is taking some time to settle in and gain confidence.
Kodiak is a little more reserved and cautious with people than some of the other dogs. She can be suspicious of unfamiliar people and prefers to take her time before deciding that someone is trustworthy. Rather than being an overly vocal dog, Kodiak does not have a strong tendency to alarm bark.
Once she becomes comfortable with someone, we are able to see more of the dog underneath that initial caution. She does well with familiar dogs and appears to appreciate the comfort and confidence that can come from relationships she knows.
Because Kodiak is still settling into the shelter, there is likely much more to learn about her personality as she becomes comfortable and feels secure. She deserves the time and patience to let her personality emerge at her own pace.

What Kodiak needs
Kodiak will benefit from patience, consistency, and a calm environment where she isn’t pressured to interact before she is ready. She will need people who understand that trust is something that can take time, particularly for a dog who has recently entered a shelter environment.
Giving her space to observe, allowing her to approach people on her own terms, and building positive associations through gentle interactions will help Kodiak feel safe and secure.
As she becomes more comfortable, we hope to see her confidence grow and learn more about the wonderful personality she has to offer.
Kodiak may take a little time to trust, but sometimes the most rewarding relationships begin with simply giving a dog the time and space to feel safe.
